Hi everyone! It's Joon from MVNT.
It’s our first newsletter – thank you for being here from day one.
mvntSTUDIO just crossed 2,000 users, ~3x last month, purely organic! We're also seeing our first paid creators and enterprise teams.
For months we've been locked in and low-profile — improving generation quality, onboarding creators one by one, fixing the bugs only real users surface, and figuring out what MVNT should become. Now as we fixed a lot of bugs it finally feels right to open the community up. We're still early, and glad you're here.
1. Model update: better dance
This month we're shipping a big model upgrade. Instead of one model that does everything okay-ish, we're building genre by genre — starting with J-pop / kawaii-style dance, aimed at viral TikTok challenges. That means better motion detail, better hands and fingers, and a much larger dataset. (Preview)
Behind the scenes, we run our own mocap studio almost every day: film, clean, label, QA, repeat. It's the road less traveled, so a lot of it is handmade.
Every dance genre has its own logic. K-pop, hip-hop, J-pop idol, TikTok challenges — they don't just look different, they repeat and hit beats differently. Internally we call this dance grammar. So we perfect one genre, then move on. K-pop and hip-hop are next.
2. Product update: for easier creation
Designing dance digitally just isn't familiar yet. Right now the average first-time user takes 50s to make their first dance (which is quite long) — So we're making creation more intuitive.
The biggest upcoming feature is templates: instead of a blank prompt, pick a style or structure, then drop in your music. If you've used Higgsfield or Kling it'll feel familiar — but here it's dance- and music-first.
Formation dance is coming too — up to 3 dancers at once. Still early, but we're excited, because dance usually isn't one person moving alone!
3. Mobile app WIP: even easier for all
We found something important: ~2/3 of MVNT users are on mobile. So we're building the app now. We also realized a monthly subscription doesn't fit everyone — many of you prefer one-time purchases, credits, and lighter, pay-as-you-go ways to use MVNT.
It’s going to be a wild upgrade and we're preparing a closed beta. If you want in early, the survey below is how you get on the list!
Help us build the right things
This is our first newsletter — and the start of a tighter feedback loop. Tell us what you want to make, which genres matter to you, whether you want in on the beta, and what feels confusing or missing. It takes ~2 minutes and directly shapes what we build next.
→ Take the survey (Beta testers get whitelisted and free credits. 🎁)
What's next
What started as a small movement is becoming a real creator tool. And it's not just dancers — it's humanoid robotics developers, AI researchers, VTuber and MMD creators, music artists, even cheerleading teams. Turns out "real human dance from music" is useful in more places than we imagined.
Next up: better models, mobile-first creation, creator support, and community-driven discovery. We're also planning community sessions soon — the survey is the best way to raise your hand.
Questions, bugs, or ideas? We just activated Intercom on the site, or grab a quick chat with me directly.
Thanks again for dancing with us from the start. lets danceeee
Best, Joon
